LOOKOUT – Workshops

25 July – 5 August 10am-1pm | 6 August 12-2pm | FREE

LOOKOUT is a 2 week theatre project for 8-13 year olds where you’ll take part in workshops with local artists Andy Field and Beckie Darlington and then take part in a performance. Watch the trailer HERE.

Through 2 weeks of morning workshops you’ll imagine what the future of Hackney might be, exploring things like architecture and urban planning, technology and the environment, politics, community and science fiction. How will we travel around in the future? What new inventions will we use every day? What challenges will the people of the future face and how will they solve them? What would a perfect London of the future look like?

The workshops will involve talking, drawing, writing and performing and are suitable for children who are interested in any or all of those things. The performances on the 6 August will involve each of the children sharing their vision of the future through conversations with audience members. This will be an exciting opportunity for the children Involved to meet interesting people from across the borough and beyond. If you’d like to book a ticket to the performance, please click HERE.

There will be scope for bilingual English/Turkish performances should children want to perform to Turkish speaking audience members. Please click HERE for a Turkish translation of this page.

Andy Field and Beckie Darlington are artists based in Hackney. They collaborate with young people to create art projects about the world we live in. Projects they have created include a guide book to St Helens designed by children, rooftop conversations about the future in Cairo, Sao Paulo and Beijing, and a local TV news network run
entirely by children.

To take part you must be free for all 10 workshops and the 2 performance days taking place at Hackney Showroom:

Mon 25 – Fri 29 July (10am-1pm)
Mon 1 – Fri 5 Aug (10am-1pm)
