ABOUT HACKNEY SHOWROOM

An artist-led, award-winning, independent theatre company and civic arts space, Hackney Showroom is a warm embrace and a force for change for artists and communities.

Founded by director Sam Curtis Lindsay and dramaturg Nina Lyndon, Hackney Showroom came to life in 2015 when the company converted a raw warehouse space into a live performance venue.

Taking risks on upcoming and genre-defying artists, Hackney Showroom’s ethos emerged as a space that was inclusive, daring and community facing, making The Guardian’s Top Ten Queer Venues in 2016 and the Evening Standard’s Best Theatres for New Writing & the Evening Standard’s Best LGBTQ Venues in 2018. We are home for groundbreaking theatre, collaborating with innovative artists – many with lived experience of injustice. Our rigorous approach to supporting each artists’ unique practice paves the way for us to make astonishing and memorable new shows that change the landscape of tomorrow’s theatre. With a refreshing invitation to our neighbourhood and to national and international audiences, we engage a myriad of communities in nourishing cultural experiences that address the problems and possibilities of our times.

As an incubator space for our theatre shows and a grassroots community centre, our home creates the best conditions for artists and locals to flourish.
