Pat Castle: Paintings of Morocco

Exhibition: 16 Aug – 2 Sept | Private View: 16 Aug 6.30-8.30pm

Hackney Showroom is pleased to announce a new exhibition by local artist Pat Castle, ‘Paintings of Morocco’. The exhibition is a unique record of the many visits the artist has paid to the country, inspired by Moorish history and Islamic culture. First visited by the artist in the 1990’s, she describes Morocco as ‘love at first sight’ – entranced by the colours, sounds, food and environment – sensorial elements that she strives to convey in her work.

Pat Castle is currently aged 94 and resides in Hackney, London. Castle works with both oils and mixed media on paper; varying between representational and near abstraction.

Castle previously studied Fine Art at Camberwell School of Arts. Her work has been exhibited in group and solo shows including the Royal Society of British Artists, Society of Women Artists, Royal Society of Marine Artists, Welcome Foundation, Lloyds of London, Southwark Festival, Canterbury Festival and British Moroccan Society.

Castle was a featured artist for the Boulogne Festival and is represented in Louisiana USA, by Heritage Gallery. Castle has previously been awarded the Greenwood Prize for Drawing.

Castle is a regular attendee of Hackney Showroom’s weekly Friday Lunch Club, a free communal meal for residents of Kings Crescent Estate and surrounding areas, aged 60+.
