Hackney Showroom is delighted to announce our new pop up theatre at Stoke Newington Town Hall, where we will be launching our next theatre production for all the women who thought they were Mad by Zawe Ashton in October 2019, transforming Hackney Council’s beautiful art deco building into a destination theatre venue.
And coming soon to Stoke Newington is our new Arts Lab – an artist development space where we support non-mainstream theatre makers, working across a range of disciplines to create new live theatre.
We work with non-traditional theatre artists – drag artists, poets, actors, cabaret artists, actor-musicians, all who want to create a piece of theatre, often for the first time. Addressing the craft of playmaking in the context of experimental performance, our work with new artists breaks new boundaries in performance, yet at the same time honours the form of the play, with narrative and storytelling at the heart of everything we do.
We are currently developing new work with some exceptional theatre makers including Hector Dyer‘s new play Thank You For Your Patience, Irina Brown’s stage adaption of the award winning children’s book The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and a new, untitled autobiographical piece by actor and reggae star Lorna Gayle.
