Death Drive
This multisensorial event will incorporate film screenings, performance and a club night, all focused on the question of why are queer people so often drawn towards self-destruction. Our destructive tendencies can take multiple forms including hedonism as well as the various struggles we wage within ourselves.
Facing ever more pressure from society to perform within its confines, can we achieve liberation through the motifs of escape, safety, fantasy, and exposure? What happens when we explode the binaries by which our lives are governed (male:female; human:animal) and instead experience our nature as multisided? Is this a problem as much as it is an opportunity?
Performances and screenings will explore contemporary crises in queer culture – the role of the internet in our lives, HIV, barebacking— through a focus on anxiety and nervousness, interrogating how, and when, the personal becomes political.
The event will include screenings by Adam Christensen, Sidsel Meinenche Hansen and Susu Laroche, as well as performances by Adam Christensen, and more TBC.
